Wisdom For Business?
Salt & Light Volume II, Issue 17 by D. Scott Prindle

"Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars."
(Proverbs 9:1)

Fools Despise Wisdom
house For the past two years we have watched amateur developers build a spec home across from us.

It's in full view of Scott's office window. These foolish men saw others build expensive homes and sell them for big profits and figured they could do the same.

From the beginning it was obvious that wisdom was lacking. Today this house sits empty on a weed infested lot. Their big plans crashed along with the real estate market.

Can you acquire the wisdom needed to navigate through the business world? If so, how? Proverbs holds the key. You can obtain Wisdom by following the instructions laid out for you by Solomon… the wisest man ever to live.

The House of Wisdom
When building a house, the first step is to lay the foundation. What is the foundation of Wisdom's house?

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." (Proverbs 9:10)

What is the fear of the Lord? It's a respectful, profoundly humble attitude toward God that enables us to obey God instead of rebel against God. This only comes through knowing the Holy One!

Oswald Chambers said, "The remarkable thing about fearing God is that, when you fear God, you fear nothing else; whereas, if you do not fear God, you fear everything else"

Without this foundation, wisdom is built on the shifting sand of the world. That's why Jesus said, "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock." (Matthew 7:24)

Next week we'll look at the house of Wisdom's seven pillars.
