Blueprint for Business- Part 1
Salt & Light Volume II, Issue 18 by D. Scott Prindle

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven."
(Matthew 5:3)

Build Wisely
house When we built our house we had to wait for the two solid redwood pillars that support our entry because they had to be hewn from scratch.

The house could not be finished without them. We had a choice... get mad at our builder or empathize with him.

Building a business or career is like building a house. You begin with the foundation. The foundation is you.

Wisdom has built her house. Would you like her blueprint?

First Pillar
We discovered the foundation of Wisdom's house is the Fear of the Lord. Now let's look at each of the seven pillars that rise up to support this house so we can build wisely.

The first pillar is humility... being poor in spirit. Isn't this just like God! If you want to become rich, you must become poor. If you want to find your life, you must lose your life.

True Humility
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less! Humility is letting the best of you come out by fostering an attitude of thinking of others as better than yourself.

"Humility is not
thinking less of
yourself, but
thinking of
yourself less!"

To better understand, you can turn this around and ask, "How do I feel when someone thinks they are better than me... when they look down on me?"

But when someone comes down below your level and lifts you up, how do you feel then?

Whether we're talking customer service, employee performance, or building our dream home, how you relate to people determines the bottom line.

Humility is being able to put aside our "position" to relate to others at their level... being able to rejoice with others when they succeed and have empathy for those who are struggling.

People need to feel believed in and feel supported, then they can do anything. Our builder realized he could put temporary supports up and keep working until the redwood pillars arrived.

Jesus is the greatest example. Because He believes in you, your humility will be the support others need to succeed. If they win, you win.

Next week we'll look at the second pillar in Wisdom's house.
