Lights Out
Salt & Light Volume II, Issue 37 by D. Scott Prindle

"So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division..." (Luke 1:8)

The One
christmas tree Stringing lights on our Christmas tree begins with finding that one bulb in a thousand that keeps all the others from shining.

Tedious and frustrating are the words that come to mind. Not to mention raw fingers from pulling out each little bulb to see if it's "the one".

How many times has it been the last one! Why in God's Name didn't I start with that one to begin with?

Hope Deferred
The Jews had been living over four hundred years without hearing from God. Zechariah and Elizabeth had been together decades without a child.

So it

Where was the Lord? Had He abandoned them and their people? What was the use of praying for a son any longer? They were well past their childbearing years.

Hope was but a memory of light that once flickered.

The dull, the routine, the mundane of life daily life is where God will suddenly break through with Hope. "So it was..." With one more act of service left in his waning life to burn incense in the Temple, Zechariah did what God called him to do.

Tree of Life
Suddenly Gabriel appears. The prayer was heard. The promise is fulfilled. Joy and gladness break forth. That dead bulb is replaced and the light bursts forth. The glory shines on him and all of Israel.

The path can be narrow and difficult. Your daily work can be hard and painful at times, with not a lot to show. You go through many bulbs and no light. But it's just one. Find it. Keep going. God is faithful, hope does not disappoint.

Your light will shine. You will have joy and gladness. Many will rejoice with you as your life becomes fruitful.
