A Message From Our Youngest Son On His Birthday

Pulling It Together
Salt & Light Volume X, Issue 32 by Matthew E. Prindle

"That you love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and muscle and intelligence—and that you love your neighbor as well as you do yourself." (Luke 10:27 The Message)

Don't Be Driven By a Life Plan
One of the most valuable characteristics of people who live their passion to pay the rent, and buy the groceries, is that they are deferring the "Life Plan".

The concept of the "Life Plan" is when you settle for things that you have to do first; like pursue higher education, earn more money, climb the professional and social ladder, etc. You do this for the security, and peace of mind, thinking it will eventually pay off. Someday you will be free to do the things you really wanted to do in the first place.

The problem with this, is you often get lost when you're on this "Life Plan" path, and forget what you were reaching for in the first place. You can forget about your true passions.

Push vs. Pull
scott & laurie prindle So many of us adopt this "Life Plan" because of how easy it is to confuse drive for passion.

The key difference between the two is that drive pushes you, but passion pulls you. If you don't know yourself and don't stay focused, it is very easy to mistake the two.

Drive is something that comes from the outside and we eat it up. Passion is something that comes from within; something burning inside of you, controlling various aspects of your life.

Your passion becomes secondary in your life while you're driven to perform in order to achieve external priorities and imperatives that fit your perception of what your social environment expects from you.

Drive replaced by passion is the secret recipe for deferring the "Life Plan".

If you don't pursue your passion(s) now, when will you? Life is short, so why use today to check off to-do items you don't really care about, instead of letting your passion pull you into being who you truly want to be?
